BIGGING UP HOLBEIN - All Squared Up!

On Saturday 1st of March 25 artists painted a 2 ft x 2 ft portion of Hans Holbein’s ‘The Ambassadors’ in just 6 hours. At 4.00 pm the canvases were be collated to create a 10 feet square version of the original which is now on display at The Guild Hall.
Also, as part of the same event, children aged 7 years and older created one of 9 sections of 'The Ambassadors' which were collated to form a giant reproduction at the end of the session. Come along and see the results of all their hard work.

BETTY BLANDINO HANDBUILT POTS

Betty Blandino is a nationally known potter with work in many collections including the V&A, She uses the age-old technique of building up pots from coils which she has developed by using a unique coiling and pinching technique to create thin-walled abstract vessel forms. The present exhibition includes work from the past and present. Works for sale.

CALLIGRAPHY

Oxford Scribes formed in 1984 from a small nucleus, including Pat Russell of Abingdon, Isabel Spencer and Edmund Wates, and has grown into one of the country's largest regional calligraphy groups. The group, which is delighted to return to Abingdon for this exhibition, includes beginners, amateurs, professionals and internationally-recognised lettering artists. Both traditional and modem experimental lettering by individual calligraphers will be on display in 30 cases. Original cards for sale.

JOSEF ALBERS FORMULATION: ARTICULATION

Event 1: A Hayward touring exhibition from the Southbank Centre, London on behalf of Arts Council England. Formulation: Articulation by Josef Albers comes to Abingdon as part of an extensive UK tour. This exhibition of silk-screen prints presents an overview of Albers' career, from his early geometric abstractions at the Bauhaus to his famous experiments with colour in the Homages to the Square series.

Event 2: On Saturday 8th March the 06 Gallery will host a family day. Drop in and enjoy arts activities inspired by the Josef Albers exhibition run by JMS Arts Leaders and David Williams artist in residence.
